KAKINADA INFO

 

Kakinada city has a population of about 6,96,329 as per 2007 census. This coastal city is witnessing rapid growth thanks to the recently granted Special Economic Zone status. The city also has a deep-water port which is expanding rapidly. This city is the most well planned city in Asia after Chandigarh, thanks to the British. The presence of a small island called Hope Island about 5 km from Kakinada coast, makes Kakinada a natural Harbor. Prior to construction of the deep water port, the old anchorage port operated for several decades as the largest minor port in India.

 

SAMALKOT

 

This city is located in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in India. This town has the main railway junction connecting the broad gauge line between Chennai - Kolkata to the district head quarters, Kakinada. Though this place is on the main lane of the broad gauge railway, it won't come in the National Highway 5 (between Chennai and Kolkata) path. Samalkot is famous for the Shiva temple which is considered as one of the Pancharama temples.

 
 

ANNAVARAM

 

This city is located in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in India. This town has the main railway junction connecting the broad gauge line between Chennai - Kolkata (and other places in North and South) to the district head quarters, Kakinada. Though this place is on the main lane of the broad gauge railway, it won't come in the National Highway 5 (between Chennai and Kolkata) path. The bypass road NH - 5 goes straight and to visit the temple take right turn in the junction near the Annavaram.

 

PITHAPURAM

 

Located 20 Km from Kakinada. It is considered to be one of the 18 Shakthipithas in India. It is famous for the temples of Kukkuteshwara Swamy, Kunthimadhava Swamy and Sri Pada Vallabha Anaagha Datha Kshethram, Agraharam, Sri Venu Gopala Swamy Temple. Pithapuram is one of the oldest and famous pilgrim places of India. There is an oldest temple call Padagya Keshatram in Pithapuram. The Lord Sri Kukuteswara Swamy is the Swayambhu with Spatika Lingam. Pithapuram is one of the Twelve Pilgrims, one of the five Madava Keshatra and one of the Asta Dasa (Eighteen) Sakthi Petas. Previously Pithapuram is known as Pitikapuram. Once you enter into the temple, complete the pradishana and come in front of Dwaja Sthamba you will be attracted by the Yeka Sila Nandi. The Yeka Sila is second biggest after Lepakshi Basaveswara Nandai.

 

DRAKSHARAMA

Draksharama is very famous for one of the pancharama temple, Draksharama Bheemeshwara Swamy and located in a green belt due to river Godavari. The temple (along with Kumararama Bheemeswara Swamy temple at Samalkot) has been constructed by the East Chalukyan king during Nineth century. The temple also consists one of the Shakti peetha, Sri Manikyamba. Irrespective of the kind, people who perfom puja here will be free of their sins.

 

BHAVANARAYANA TEMPLE

 

The temple is located at a distance of 5 Km from Kakinada. The story of Sarpavaram is narrated in the Brahma Vyvarta Purana.This temple has been acclaimed as the best 'Punya Kshetra'. Saints like Agastya and Vyasa visited this places. The Rajas and Maharajas of Pithapuram rendered worship to the deity by spending lavishly on the sacred festivities of the Temple

 

UPPADA

(Beach)
 

Kakinada - Uppada Road Beach is located on Uppada Road which is 5 km away from the town of Kakinada. The wide shore is a major attraction of this beach. The clear water, the silver sand and the golden sun gifts the beach with a majestic beauty. The charm that is woven by the azure sky makes the Kakinada - Uppada Road Beach a unique place to visit. There is also a beautiful and well maintained park that adds to the attractiveness of the beach.

 

RANGARAYA MEDICAL COLLEGE

 

In the year 1977 Government of Andhra Pradesh took over the privately managed RMC. In 1981 Rangaraya Medical College became a full fledged Government Medical College. A Sports Pavilion was constructed near the Men's Hostel and it was opened by Sri. KVRS Padmanabha Raju.

 

JNT UNIVERSITY

 

The College was established on 16th July, 1946 as the College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam. It was later named as the Government College of Engineering, Kakinada. After being initially affiliated to the University of Madras and later to the Andhra University, it became a constituent College of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at the time of its formation on 2nd October 1972.
